The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is one of the world’s major international research organizations. An undertaking of this size and significance needs a decentralized organizational structure which nevertheless incorporates line functions that allow it to develop an efficient strategic orientation on the basis of centralized control mechanisms.

Structure as per the statutes

Although the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is basically a decentralized organization, its structure also allows for a centrally agreed strategy and effective centralized management. Various constituent bodies and committees are responsible for coordination, consultation and leadership across the organization as a whole.
