Immune diseases are usually treated symptomatically with drugs that suppress patients’ immune system in a nonspecific manner, an approach known as immunosuppressive therapy. Causal and, ideally, individualized curative therapy is not currently possible. Both in terms of pathophysiology and the exploration of potential therapeutic target structures, there is a pressing need for research, which the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Immune-Mediated Diseases wishes to address.
