Terahertz Sensor Technology
The High-Performance Center for Terahertz Sensor Technology is a partnership between Fraunhofer FHR and Fraunhofer IMS. It is a one-stop shop for all matters of terahertz technologies and their emerging market. Terahertz technologies close the gap between electromagnetic microwaves and infrared sensors. Historically speaking, Fraunhofer IMS has been conducting photonics research, while Fraunhofer FHR has been researching the frequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Fields of application include medical engineering, defense, communication and quality assurance.
The high-performance center brings together the whole range of expertise − from chip design to the production and characterization of chips and the manufacturing of functional module prototypes. It can rely on a strong network of industry and university partners. The center aims to make existing knowledge and the results of its research work available to companies and the general public through various transfer pathways.
Key projects:
- Research and development to promote terahertz technologies and expand the IP portfolio
- Development of products with industry for new applications; support from chip design through to the finished module (photonics and rada
- Provision of measurement technology and manufacturing processes for prototypes
- Technical guidance and support for start-ups
- Public outreach to increase awareness of terahertz technology
- Training opportunities such as webinars and summer schools for interested parties
