Smart Production and Materials
Since 2017, the two Fraunhofer Institutes for Machine Tool and Forming Technology IWU as well as for Electronic Nanosystems ENAS have been cooperating in the Smart Production Center of Excellence with the Technical University, also based in Chemnitz. In order to further expand the innovative power of interdisciplinary cooperation, the consortium was expanded in July 2019 by the Dresden-based Fraunhofer Institutes for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS and Materials and Beam Technology IWS and the Technical University of Dresden to become the High-Performance Center Smart Production. The overarching goal is to set groundbreaking impulses for the production technology of the future and to speedily transfer these into the economy through the parallelization of basic and application-oriented research as well as diverse knowledge and technology transfer.
Focal points of the joint scientific projects of the second funding phase are the additive generative production including various materials (eg plastics, metals, ceramics and selected composites) and the intelligent production technology, in which both the increased data acquisition and their use by integration of sensors and actuators, as The focus will also be on the digitization and networking of production processes.
