Sustainable and Competitive: the Bioeconomic Future of the EU
Expert workshop on Fraunhofer Roadmap Circular Bioeconomy
On September 20, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft presented its Roadmap for the Future Development of the Circular Bioeconomy.
Climate change, biodiversity loss, resource scarcity, increasing global population: all pose huge challenges to humanity. The bioeconomy, through technology, goods, and knowledge, provides solutions and a chance to make a significant contribution towards a more sustainable economy and way of life.
We were delighted to get input from Peter Wehrheim, Head of Unit "Food Systems and Bioeconomy", DG Research and Innovation, European Commission on the current status of the European Bioeconomy Strategy.
Focusing on solutions for the areas of food systems, biomass matrial utilization, CO2 value creation and socio-economic aspects of the bioeconomy, Fraunhofer experts discussed these key questions with participants:
- What are the scientific and technological potentials and challenges of the bioeconomy till 2035?
- Where will applied research promote a market ramp-up of the bioeconomy meeting ecological and socioeconomic needs?
- Which kind of political framework conditions are needed to achieve this
To get more insights, take a look at the presentation and the take home messages.
