Fraunhofer SPEAKER project wins award at BMWi KI innovation competition

Language assistance made in Germany

The SPEAKER project for the development of a language assistance platform "made in Germany" was awarded in the innovation competition "Artificial intelligence as a driver for economically relevant ecosystems" of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi). This makes the Fraunhofer project one of 16 outstanding concepts that were able to assert themselves against the competition of over 130 submissions. The award ceremony took place on September 19, 2019 during the opening ceremony of the Digital Technologies Forum in Berlin.

Fraunhofer HHI researchers receive Best Demo Award at the ICVR 2019

At the „International Conference on Virtual Rehabilitation 2019” (ICVR) in Tel Aviv, Israel, Fraunhofer HHI researchers of the deparment Vision and Imaging Technologies won the Best Demo Award. The conference that took place from July 21 to 24, 2019, provided an overview of applied and clinical research on technologies in the field of virtual rehabilitation.

DENKweit GmbH wins an award in the IQ Innovation Award Central Germany competition

Efficient quality control in the production of battery cells, solar modules, or power electronics: for this offer, the DENKweit GmbH was selected as the winner in the “Cluster Automotive” category of the IQ Innovation Award Central Germany competition. The technology from the company based in Halle (Saale), a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS, combined non-destructive testing with the capabilities of self-learning neural networks.

SAE International in the USA awards the Wright Brothers Medal to Fraunhofer IFAM researchers

Dipl.-Ing. Christian Möller, deputy leader of the Integrated Production Systems group in the Automation and Production Technology department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Stade, Germany, has been presented with the Wright Brothers Medal 2019 by Dr. h.c. Paul Mascarenas, B.Sc., President of SAE International, at the Aerotech Americas Congress 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, in front of an international audience on behalf of the authors of the publication entitled "Real Time Pose Control of an Industrial Robotic System for Machining of Large Scale Components in Aerospace Industry Using Laser Tracker System".

Oldenburg hearing expert Dr. Jan Rennies-Hochmuth awarded grant from Klaus Tschira Boost Fund

Dr. Jan Rennies-Hochmuth has been awarded a grant from the “Klaus Tschira Boost Fund” for his outstanding research. He is working on the development of personalized hearing systems for improved speech communication at the Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology Division (HSA) of the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT in Oldenburg. Together with the German Scholars Organization e.V., the Klaus Tschira Foundation provides support for the next generation of academics. Fraunhofer IDMT-HSA is a partner in the »Hearing4all« Cluster of Excellence.

The Aachen Center for integrative Lightweight Production AZL wins the JEC Innovation Award 2019 in the Category “Industry & Equipment”

This year, the Aachen Center for integrative Lightweight Production AZL GmbH won the JEC AWARD 2019 for the development of the new machine system “Ultra-Fast Consolidator Machine”. Directly-cooled electric motor made from polymer materials

JEC Award

Making electric cars lighter also involves reducing the weight of the motor. One way to do that is by constructing it from fiber-reinforced polymer materials. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT are working together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT to develop a new cooling concept that will enable polymers to be used as motor housing materials. And that’s not the only advantage of the new cooling concept: it also significantly increases the power density and efficiency of the motor compared to the state of the art.

Best values in the ranking by ‘brand eins’ and Statista

For the first time, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS in Halle (Saale) has made it into the ranking of the most innovative companies and research institutions in Germany. The list of the best companies determined by the business magazine ‘brand eins’ and the statistics portal Statista is based on surveys of industry and innovation experts. The Fraunhofer IMWS received the top rating in the ‘Energy and Environment’ category.

Fraunhofer IPM wins Innovation Challenge

Track & Trace FINGERPRINT

Fraunhofer IPM was able to prevail against global competition as one of the two winners at the Swedish SmartSteel Innovation Challenge. The competition looked for processes for label-free tracing of steel products. By the end of last year, 26 teams from all over the world had placed themselves to this task. Fraunhofer IPM convinced the jury with »Track & Trace FINGERPRINT«, a method for label-free tracing.
